Objective: To analyze the perceptions of students from the 1st to the 4th year of the medical course at a public Brazilian Higher Education Institution (IES) regarding the educational climate of their college during the period of Emergency Remote Teaching imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: Six focus groups were conducted with 35 students between December 2020 and January 2021. These sessions were recorded, transcribed, and subsequently subjected to discourse analysis. Results: The students expressed predominantly negative views, highlighting issues in the three domains that constitute an educational climate: relationships, goal orientation, and organization/regulation. They frequently addressed the repercussions of the pandemic on students' mental health and how it affected their learning experience. Conclusion: The students identified various negative aspects in the educational climate of their institution during the period of Emergency Remote Teaching (ERT).
