Objective: To analyze reports of violence against the elderly, from 2009 to 2018, in the Federal District and municipalities in the states of Goiás and Minas Gerais that make up the Integrated Development Region of the Surroundings. Method: Descriptive study that used the violence notification database of the Notifiable Diseases Information System. The violence was characterized as to the place of occurrence, type of violence, characteristics of the aggressor and outcomes for the health sector. Results: 1,266 records were identified, 914 in the Federal District, 301 in the state of Goiás and 51 in Minas Gerais. The residence was the main place of occurrence, the most frequent physical violence and the children the main aggressors. In the outcomes for the health sector, 63.11% of the notifications were blank, 23.85% were discharged and 11.61% were ignored. Conclusions: Racial and economic inequalities impact the phenomenon of violence against the elderly. Home proximity, financial dependence and family relationships marked by violence contribute to the occurrence of violence against the elderly, given the possibility of generational conflicts. The total number of blank/ignored notifications points to weaknesses in filling out the violence notification form, within the scope of the services.
