Resumo

Introduction: during the COVID-19 pandemic, the notification of new tuberculosis cases in Brazil decreased significantly, with the Federal District presenting the lowest detection rate in five years. Objective: to conduct active case finding of tuberculosis to obtain data that reflect the spread in vulnerable populations in the Federal District. Methods: cross-sectional, quantitative study in 19 shelters in the health regions of the Federal District, with samples processed by the Central Laboratory of the Federal District, using the GeneXpert® system. Results: three positive tuberculosis cases were detected among homeless individuals or those in shelters, out of 323 processed samples, who had never been treated or diagnosed. Conclusion: active case finding is an effective and crucial strategy for vulnerable populations. The implementation of control programs is essential to interrupt the transmission chain of the disease and eradicate the public health problem by 2030.
